The Shiny Brewery

After a gap of some 80 years brewing returned to Little Eaton in 2012 when Shiny Brewery set up business in the village. Pedro Menon owned the Furnace Inn in Derby, a pub which had a good reputation for cask beers. Looking for a new challenge Pedro decided to brew some of his own beers for the pub and installed a small brewing kit in the back garden of the pub. The first beers brewed were made purely for the pub under the Shiny brand, the first one appropriately being called Launchpad (a 3.9%ABV Pale Ale). After some initial success it was decided that a larger, stand alone kit was needed but this would need more space! Suitable premises were located on the Old Hall Mill Business Park at Little Eaton and slowly the new brewery took shape, brewing its first beers, cask beers, in 2012. Since then the business has prospered. As had always been the intention, a brewery bar (The Shiny Tap) was set up as a showcase for the brewery’s products. Why the name Shiny? Well Pedro thought of many options, but the name Shiny has, in Pedro’s words, “such positive vibes and fitted with the business that I wanted to create. It also gave me a reason to introduce "shiny metallic" pump clips to stand out from the crowd.”

Also part of the Shiny Brewery, a wholesale operation was started – Beer Metropolis. This has not only acted as an outlet for the Shiny Brewery range of beers, but also meant that beers could be bought in from other small breweries throughout the country and offered for sale throughout the Midlands. The wholesale operation works both ways with Shiny beers travelling around the country through many brewers and wholesalers. Shiny Brewery next ventured into canned and keg beers, offering them through both the Shiny Tap and Beer Metropolis, both as a wholesaler, but also selling the canned beers online through the company’s website. Eventually it was decided to split the business into two separate operations, with Beer Metropolis as a separate wholesaler/online organisation and the Shiny Brewery with its Shiny Tap pub, which is now open seven days a week – Little Eaton’s latest pub!

Beer Metropolis, Shiny Brewery and Shiny Tap are gathering quite a following - as this article from The Derby Telegraph in 2022 describes.
